warrior queen

blue bird blouse, cheap monday jeans, f21 scarf and shoes, jewelry f21 and heart boutique, bag unknown
I had a ton of running around to do with Andrew today, so I chose something easy and comfortable to wear. The weather was gorgeous today (a lovely change from the recent fog and rain) and it wasn't that cold either, so I didn't feel the need to layer as much as I have been lately. I went with a sorta shear nude blouse, black skinnies (my ultimate staple to any outfit) and an Aztec inspired tribal scarf to top the look off. Overall, I was pleased with the end result. So happy Saturday everyone,  hope you are all having a great weekend!

I felt the need to discuss with you my love for black and white stripes today after I came across the most beautiful blouse on pinterest (which happens to be my new favorite addiction). Black and white stripes have been in trend for several years now, (similar to leopard print) and well, I love them as much as leopard, if not more. This look can easily be mixed with any print, and goes with practically every color under the sun. Black and whites stripes are super chic and so beautiful, and I find myself buying anything that comes in this pattern-whether it be a blouse, tank, dress, jacket, or even a bathing suit (yes, I own a black and white striped bikini and it's fab!)

The weather is still terrible here in Sac, so still no outfit posts for you guys (I promise to get it together this weekend). So instead of posting about clothes today, I decided to share with the world my love for red lips and cat eyes. This gorgeous makeup trick never fails to make me feel beautiful and polished, and like I actually made an effort. It has certainly been around forever and is nothing new, however it does makes a huge statement on any women's face, plus it is so easy to accomplish!

the warmth inside

So I have to apologize for my recent absence on my blog. I haven't been feeling well lately (I've been fighting a cold for the past week) and on top of that, the weather in Sacramento has been really windy and rainy and really COLD- which inevitably makes it hard to take outfit pictures. So that's my excuse or lack of one. However, in lieu of these past chilly days, I've realized that I need to purchase a coat with fur to keep me warm. I've seen some cute ones recently, whether it be a leather jacket, a full shag fur coat, or a parka. Also for some reason or another, I feel drawn to the colors black and army green. Seems practical and stylish, don't you think? So here's to happy shopping to me in my search for the perfect winter coat! Hopefully soon I'll have pictures of my new purchase to show you.

I thoroughly appreciate metallic shades and hard metals in fashion. We keep seeing it return season after season on the runway, in magazines, and in stores. I for one love the look and feel of it and can't help think the inspiration behind this trend originates from the glamorous 1970's disco era. I mean who doesn't want to look like they're going to studio 54 to dance with Liza Minnelli and Andy Warhol all night? Golds, silvers, coppers, and gun metals will all be in rotation in my closet this year (whatever the season may be) because they simply pump up any outfit regardless the occasion!

copycat

h&m kimono jacket, tresics white tee, citizens of humanity shorts, jeffrey campbell boots, bracelets f21, rings h&m, crossroads trading co., silpada
This is one of my many kimono jackets I am blessed to own, but it's also one of my favorites. It's very Nicole-esque in it's nature and fits like a dream. I think I've worn it at least 10 times in several different combinations- including shorts and tights like seen here, over dresses, and with a classic pair of black skinnies. I love clothes that are versatile and easy to style, as well in neutral colors like black and white because they go with everything! Also you have to admit that the pattern almost imitates leopard print (which we all know how I feel about that) so you can imagine how excited I was when I came across this recently at h&m. It was a great buy for sure!

I want to rock your gypsy soul

So while I was at work today I decided it was time I should pay tribute to my number one fashion icon, the one and only, Nicole Richie. Her personal fashion choices, as well as the clothes she designs, are the epitome of bohemian-glamour (otherwise known as Boho Chic) which is a fashion trend I completely melt over. I am in love with the marriage between vintage (circa 1960s) inspired clothes and couture. My heart literally sings for beautifully detailed clothes in rich fabrics like silk, chiffon, and velvet. I also adore bold graphic prints and anything flowy and loose fitting. At the same time, I can't resist feathers, sequins, lace, and metal embellishments (like rivets and studs). Nicole really embraces all of these and regularly incorporates them into her wardrobe effortlessly. She has such an amazing way of taking vintage influenced looks and making them look so modern and stylish. I really share her love for ankle booties, kimonos, prints, scarves, floppy hats, big sunglasses, and of course gold jewelery. Let be it be known to the world now, here in the comfort of my own blog, I proclaim that House of Harlow 1960 and Winter Kate is nothing less than pure genius. I find myself drooling over her collections time and time again. Rock on Nicole, your gypsy spirit is an inspiration to us all!

In lieu of my good friend Nina's decision to start her very own personal style blog, I wanted to dedicate this post to her! Leopard print has somehow seen it's way in and out of style throughout past seasons, and as Nina put it today, some critics believe it will "fade out" soon enough. I suppose one could argue that leopard print has become another overdone trend in the fashion industry, but in actuality leopard print is beautiful and super chic. Yes, it can easily be carried away and look tacky (if styled incorrectly) but it can also be a great way to bring an outfit together and make it look modern and effortless (like adding a leopard bag or shoe to your ensemble). It can also be paired with so many different fabrics and colors including black and white stripes, houndstooth, mustard yellow, and especially my favorite army green. From my experience, these select style choices never fail.

Simply put, every woman needs some kind of leopard print in her life-whether it be an accessory or piece of clothing. As I mentioned previously, my closet staples can be broken down to five basics: leather, lace, fringe, suede, and leopard print. Whenever shopping, I find myself continually drawn to clothes and accessories that consist of these five textiles and try to build outfits using these foundations. I recommend that you do as well. To wrap up, I believe it's clear that leopard is a classic and here to stay!

I just wanna sing a song with you

american eagle denim shirt, tresics white tee, h&m leather pants, aldo boots, f21 rings and necklace
Well here is my first attempt to capture some pictures of the outfit I wore today. It's Saturday and I didn't have anything necessarily planned, so I went with a casual yet stylish look. Right now, I pretty much throw my denim shirt over everything. It super comfortable and can be styled in so many different ways. I also haven't really had a chance to wear my new suede boots that Andrew gifted me for Christmas this year, so I decided I would wear them in my first outfit post. Aren't the awesome? They have the perfect heel and look great with your pants tucked inside them or cuffed at the ankle (a look I adore). Also these pants are so great too! I love that you can pair it with a tee to dress them down like I did here, or  you can wear them with a feminine blouse for a really chic evening look. Leather pants are a staple piece every girl should have in her closet. Im sure you'll be seeing these pants frequently, because they look great with so many things I have, and well I just love them!

Alright, so in regards to the photos we took, they aren't the best quality, but like I said earlier this whole personal style blog is such a foreign territory to me and a complete learning process. Andrew and I spent quite awhile trying to figure out where would be a good spot to shoot, and we finally decided that in front of the little tree next to my apartment door was a lovely spot. The sun hit me at a good angle and illuminated my hair to a fiery red (which I think looks cool in the pictures). It was rather windy outside (which is sorta unusual and yet surprisingly pleasant because it seemed to warm up somehow) so I was worried my hair would look crazy in the pictures, but to my delight that wasn't the case. So here are a few decent shots that really showcased my look. I am hopeful that with practice and experience, overtime my pictures and especially my poses will look a lot better and not so awkward!
